This Privacy Policy applies to the Zeno: Sleep Terror & Paralysis Relief application ("Zeno," "the App"), operated by Watson Labs Technology LLC ("we," "us," "our"). By using Zeno, you agree to the practices described here.

What We Collect

Data That Stays on Your Device

The following data is processed and stored locally on your iPhone and Apple Watch. It is never transmitted to Watson Labs or any third party.

• Detect sleep terror and paralysis episodes in real time
• Deliver haptic and audio wake interventions
• Learn your personal sleep patterns through adaptive calibration
• Store your episode history and Dream Journal entries locally
• Send you product updates if you've joined the waitlist
• Improve detection algorithms using anonymous, aggregated data

We do not use your data for advertising. We do not sell your data. We do not share identifiable data with third parties.

Anonymous Detection Data & Research

Zeno's detection algorithms improve with more data. To support this, Zeno transmits anonymous detection patterns — episode signatures stripped of all personal identifiers.

What "anonymous" means specifically

• No name, email, Apple ID, or device identifier is attached
• No raw heart rate or motion data is transmitted — only computed patterns
• No timestamps that could identify you
• No location data
• Data cannot be traced back to any individual

Tier-based data contribution

Research use

Anonymous aggregate data may be used for peer-reviewed sleep research, shared with academic institutions, or licensed to healthcare organizations. Individual data points are never identifiable. Watson Labs may generate revenue from aggregate research data — this supports continued development of Zeno.

Health Data

Zeno accesses Apple HealthKit data (heart rate, motion) exclusively for real-time episode detection. This data is processed on your device and is never transmitted to our servers. Zeno does not write health data back to HealthKit. Zeno's use of HealthKit data complies with Apple's HealthKit guidelines — it is never used for advertising or sold to third parties.

Third Parties

Services we use

• Apple App Store — app distribution and subscription billing
• Netlify — website hosting (zenowakes.com)
• Stripe — future payment processing for hardware

Services we do not use

• No advertising SDKs or networks
• No analytics tracking on the app
• No third-party crash reporting that transmits personal data
• No social media tracking pixels in the app

If analytics are added in the future, this policy will be updated and users will be notified.

No Advertising Networks

Zeno does not integrate advertising SDKs. No advertising networks receive any data from Zeno or its users.

Your Rights

Access and Deletion

Because your personal data stays on your device, you control it entirely. You can:

• View all your episode history in the Zeno History tab
• Export your data as CSV or PDF from Settings → Export Session Data
• Delete all data using Settings → Clear All Data
• Delete the app entirely — this removes all locally stored Zeno data from your device

Anonymous Data

Because anonymous data is stripped of all identifiers before transmission, we cannot identify or delete specific contributions from our aggregate research dataset. This is by design — the anonymization is what makes the research use ethical and safe.

Waitlist Data

To remove your email or phone number from our waitlist, email privacy@zenowakes.com. We will remove your information within 30 days.

California Residents (CCPA)

California residents have the right to know what personal information is collected, the right to delete personal information, and the right to opt out of the sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information. For requests, contact privacy@zenowakes.com.

European Users (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have rights including access, rectification, erasure, and portability of your personal data. Our lawful basis for processing waitlist data is your consent. For requests, contact privacy@zenowakes.com.

Terms of Use

These Terms of Use govern your use of the Zeno application and zenowakes.com website, operated by Watson Labs Technology LLC ("Watson Labs," "we," "us"). By downloading or using Zeno, you agree to these terms.

License

Watson Labs grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use Zeno on Apple devices you own or control, subject to these terms and Apple's App Store terms.

Subscription and Billing

• Zeno offers a 7-day free trial with full access to detection and wake features
• After the trial, a paid subscription is required for continued protection
• Subscriptions are billed through Apple's App Store
• You can cancel at any time through your Apple ID settings
• No refunds for partial billing periods — Apple's standard refund policy applies

Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Zeno application
• Attempt to extract detection algorithms or calibration logic
• Use Zeno for any purpose other than personal sleep monitoring
• Redistribute, sublicense, or resell access to Zeno
• Submit false episode reports or manipulate calibration data

Intellectual Property

All content, code, algorithms, design, and branding associated with Zeno are the exclusive property of Watson Labs Technology LLC. The Zeno name, logo, and detection system architecture are proprietary.

Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to Zeno if you violate these terms. You may stop using Zeno at any time by deleting the app and canceling your subscription.

Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware. Any disputes shall be resolved through binding arbitration in New York, New York.

Changes to Terms

We may update these terms. Material changes will be communicated through the app or by email. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.

Medical Disclaimer

• Zeno is not a substitute for professional medical care
• Detection is not guaranteed — false negatives and false positives may occur
• If you experience frequent sleep terrors or paralysis, consult a sleep specialist
• Do not rely on Zeno as your sole safety mechanism for any medical condition
• Future Zeno Band Pro hardware will pursue 510(k) FDA clearance — the current app does not hold FDA clearance
